When it comes to healthy eating, it’s pretty shocking that research from the ABS shows only 5.6 per cent of Australian adults have an adequate daily intake of fruit and vegetables, but that number sky-rockets to 95 per cent for children under 11.
This indicates that we know what we should be doing regarding healthy eating, because we make sure our children eat the right stuff, but we don’t do it ourselves. So why is this?
Any parent will tell you that having kids is a full time job. From the day they’re born to the day they leave home, finding time for yourself can seem like an impossible task. Not to mention the utter exhaustion that accompanies parenthood. Sometimes I wonder why we do we do it to ourselves?!
Because it’s worth it. Of course it is and we wouldn’t have it any other way, but it’s important to find the time to look after ourselves too because healthy eating is so important. Here are five great reasons to find time to exercise and eat healthily:
- Your health
You only get one body so take care of it! Obesity, diabetes and heart problems are becoming increasingly more prevalent in Australia. Many people end up on medicines that only cover up symptoms of underlying problems in the body. Taking care of yourself now means that you can live happier later.
- Live healthy for your children
Think about your family and the time you spend with them. Those precious moments will be gone before you know it and wouldn’t you rather your time with them be the most quality time you can possibly give them? Keep up with your kids outside, be a positive role model for them and make sure they don’t have to take care of you when you’re older because you didn’t take care of yourself now.
Seriously! The endorphins released while exercising make us feel good and simply choosing better foods and taking part in exercise can help reverse feelings of lethargy and depression. Why let those feelings control your life? YOU have the power to create an amazing life and a healthy mindset for yourself.
- Impress your boss with better brain power
Exercise and proper nutrition have been shown to improve brainpower and increase energy levels. No matter what your job is, you will help make yourself be more proficient with an exercise and nutrition plan.
- Look good and feel good
It’s amazing how feeling self-conscious about your body can affect so many other areas in life. The simple fact is that most people feel more confident and happier when they’re a healthy weight and exercising regularly. This doesn’t mean that you need to be slim to feel good about yourself, but training can help with so many aspects even simply your mood.
